under the footplate there is a metal arm that goes to the foot and connect to the footplate and there is now sideways movement coming from there or somewere near it

i no this might sound silly but..have you tried tightening the bolts in the area?

Yeah that is a definatley a good start.
You may want to check the bushings under the footplate, aswell as the bolt itself. If the bushes sometimes have a bit of movement this starts to affect either your bushes or affects the main foot plate, deforming the alignment where the bolt goes through. If the movement is futher down then it may be the plastic stopper/piece under the spring, between the bottom metal arm and the spring. Put up a pic if this doesn't seem a clear direction or answer for you. If we can see it we know exactly.
